SNAGGS @ Giant Robot San Francisco Sat. 14th

Thursday, August 12th, 2010

Hey there San Francisco people ( friskies?). My wife candi ( Snaggs ) is having an AMAZING art show at Giant robot Saturday night. Must Come!!

It’s called “Hot Pink Fuzz”

Snaggs also invited two artists that inspire her work. They are Mrs. Muju ( UK ) and Monyomonyo ( Japan ). All the work is sewn, and I’ve seen all the pieces for this show, they are amazing!! Snaggs’s cereal boxes are so funny and awesome. Mrs Muju’s are detailed beyond belief, it’ll take you on a journey! And what can I say about Monyomonyo?? Psychedelic muppets meets native American. Seriously amazing. These ladies are some of my most favorite artist in any genre hand down.

So come by and say hello! We’re the goofy looking ones.

Added bonus…
it’s a good chance to see how it’ll feel to travel to the haight for when S7 moves. Haha.

Gargamel + Arbito = Cosmic Hobo Pocket

Wednesday, August 4th, 2010

There was a secret release at the Gargamel Booth on Sunday, the last day of the SDCC. It was a Cosmic Hobo Pocket!

Kiyoka, owner and master sculpture of Gargamel asked me if he could make a vinyl Cosmic Hobo pocket toy based off my original resin figure. Being a big fan of Gargamels toys I responded with a large,  “YES!” followed by many exclamation marks. In the following days I wondered how my resin Cosmic Hobo would translate to a vinyl pocket size.

Arbito original Cosmic Hobo Resin Figure

Cosmic hobo has lanky legs and a shaggy mop; topped off with a large feather.  The characters in the current lineup of pocket toys have a look of having  a low center of gravity, (SQUATTY HOBO!) like having body proportions of a infant!  Their small cute proportions is what makes Gargamel’s pockets so collectible. So I had no clue how Kiyoka would represent Cosmic Hobo in the pocket line up. One thing was certain, Hobo was going to be Kiyoka’s pet project, and I had no doubt he would pull it out perfectly!

A week or so later Kiyoka sent photos of Cosmic Hobo’s finished sculpt and wax model. The results are amazing, adorable, and hilarious! I can’t decide if he’s a chubby 70 year old or a 3 year old. Either way he makes me laugh every time I see his squatty legs and poochy butt! :)

The First release for Pocket Hobo is an unpainted milky-clear vinyl. It was available at The San Diego Comicon 2010. For those who did not make the Comicon this year you should have a chance to pick up this first Cosmic Hobo in the coming weeks.

Kiyoka did an amazing job with Hobo. I hope everyone loves little Hobo as much as I do! I am absolutely honored and thrilled! Thank you Kiyoka!

Keep your eyes peeled for future releases of Pocket Cosmic Hobo from Gargamel. http://www.gargamel.jp/
